At first one might think, who would want a vehicle close to three times their age with minimal safety features and missing just about everything that makes a car comfortable? Well, clearly that person is me!
Unlike many people, the features that these cars lack are the features I find appealing. No interior, sweet! Shaped like a tin can and about as safe as one too, awesome! These "annoyances" are what make these old Volkswagen's so special to me.
I first fell in love with these ancient beasts while looking through an old family photo album. Bus after bus greeted me with each turn of the page.
I saw photo's from old camping trips, vacations down to Floriduh, errands around town, and everyday life at home.
It was a natural calling upon me to continue the tradition of owning split window buses, something my grandfather started.
Was it the simplicity that got me hooked? Partly, because who wouldn't want a car they can fix with a twig and a rock. But what really got me was the way they send you back in time, to a place without cell phones and modern comforts. To a place where everything was simple. That was the real reason.
With that in mind I hit the classifieds searching for the right bus for me. Now take in to mind, the chances of finding a rust free bus in the north east, home of salt and more salt, is quite slim, but due to my determination I found one. Rejoice, rejoice, rejoice! Until the next post.
